Microsoft Office 2010

Microsoft Office 2010

Microsoft, amidst the release of the new Windows 7 operating system, is expecting to revitalize its product lines in the same fashion it that was presented to consumers in 2007, with the release of Windows Vista followed by a slew of version 2007 products. Programs such as Office, Exchange, SQL Server, and SharePoint are expected to receive an extended face lift in the capabilities that they offer computer programmers, IT technicians, and the general computing public. The most profound contribution to the computing public with these upgrades could inevitably be viewed as Office 2010.

Apart from being the most anticipated release of the 2010 marquee software that Microsoft will be rolling out in the coming months, Office 2010 is set to revolutionize the way in which we view Office applications, as a whole. Clearly the most consumer friendly host of applications that Microsoft bundles into a single product, Microsoft aims to please the public through adopting its user friendly approach which it currently markets Windows 7 under and applying to the operational standards of Office applications. Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher are some of the primary applications in the Office Suite that will see the user friendly overhaul, where other applications such as OneNote and Visio will see more features that aim to please their user base in the creative aspects.

Another relatively major development pertaining to the Office 2010 release correlates to the ever growing number of free Office-esque programs that have become abundant in recent years. Microsoft has noticed the growing user base for free software emulating its successful Office applications, and has decided to release free versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote to coincide with the retail release of Office 2010. A marketing action of this magnitude is unprecedented in Microsoft’s history, and should yield market shares away from open source Office clones, back to the genuine products.

Currently, Microsoft is offering a Beta version of Office 2010 that users may download and test drive the changes to their programs. This is a similar marketing strategy that Microsoft deployed some time ago for users who wished to test run Windows 7, and ultimately became part of the evaluation process for bug testing, user input, and compatibility issue resolution. Office 2010 will also be released in four separate versions, each with version dedicated to particular user bases.

The release of Office 2010 is obviously heavily anticipated by the computing public – as most newly renovated applications are. Office 2010 appears to be redesigned with the intent of pleasing users who might have felt let down in recent years with Microsoft products, or bringing back users who have left for free applications. Regardless, one thing is for certain with the release of Office 2010: Microsoft will yet again recreate the industry standard for applications which are essential for both students and businesses daily needs.
