IT Job Worries Increase the Importance of Training

With the current economic crisis, those in the IT profession might have had it impact their lives a bit more than others, as companies shift their IT centers overseas for cheaper work. Those IT professionals who find themselves out of work, or switched from full- to part-time status, because of the “crisis in the country” should seriously think about obtaining as much training as they possibly can in their field so that they can enhance their knowledge to make them a bit more marketable in a competitive job market.

While paying the bills come first, but pursing the latest IT skills and knowledge should come close behind. You might think your current unemployment or part-time status is the worst thing that could ever happen to you, but there could be a silver lining in your dark cloud. Your sudden change of work status also creates a fabulous opportunity for IT training or other activities that can sharpen current IT skills or help to develop new ones. This makes you have a competitive edge over other competing for the same jobs as you since you will have more knowledge in certain areas, which makes you a better candidate.

Of course, recently unemployed folks don’t really have “nothing but time” on their hands, so launching into learning will take real effort, some ingenuity, and above all, strong motivation to keep plugging away at something that isn’t paying very well at the moment. Just because you’re in a rut, doesn’t mean you can’t motivate yourself to be a better IT professional. Mourn you unfortunate situation and then get over it and move on. Be a survivor and use this opportunity to make yourself a better IT professional another company will want to hire.

But, don’t forget to file your job loss paperwork, make your unemployment claims, and go through whatever motions your local job placement authorities may require of you so that you are still getting some type of income to keep you afloat. Obtaining more income must always come first. But pursuing IT skills and knowledge should come next given they can open more doors for your job search. The new skills and knowledge you obtain in training can also broaden the field of positions you might fill, thereby increasing the odds of finding something new, and hopefully shortening the time it takes to get yourself into a new job.

Taking one of our certification bootcamps will help you learn a ton of new skills since we offer numerous titles that are also cost-effective ways to train. Our IT training bootcamps are taught by certified professionals, so you are learning from the industry’s best without the high price tag.

While you’re looking for that next job, this might be a perfect time to pursue that credential you’ve always been interested in, but never had the time to go after given that many companies look to hire only those IT professionals that hold certifications. It could also give you the opportunity to investigate interesting technologies or platforms that you never had time to dig into before so that you can possibly think about going into a different segment in the IT industry. We have a variety of these certification courses and regular IT ones so that you can familiarize yourself with new technologies.

Also, take into consideration high-demand IT specialties, such as storage, information security, ERP software, software architecture, databases, identity management, and so forth, and pretty soon you’ll have a wish list that’s at least enough to keep you busy until you land your next job.
